The Matt Renzi trio
Premiere in Israel

Thursday 22.2, 20:30, Cinematheque 1

As in every year, the Tel-Aviv Jazz Festival shines a light on artists who are operating in the more daring free jazz field.
This year, in an Israeli premiere, comes a west coast ensemble lead by the young and talented saxophone and clarinet player, Matt Renzi.
This ensemble, as suited to an ensemble with no harmonic instrument, draws from the intense energy of its three members, and a deep recognition based on long friendship.
Renzi, a San Francisco native, grew in a musical family. His father the flutist and grandfather the oboist gave him his first musical education.
Renzi received degrees from Berklee College of Music and The San Francisco University and among his teachers were George Garzone and Joe Henderson.
He collaborated in recording sessions and shows with Marc Johnson, Eberhard Weber, Eddie Marshall, and others. The show is based on Renzi's original compositions, which tend to compose when inspired by the various places in the world he visits. His tunes excel in lyrical and esthetics along with boldness and open notion.

"This ensemble proves that it is possible to create freely without being abstract, and to be open to any possibility and still remain focused"
(John Calman-All About Jazz Magazine)
